Early life.
- Jaime was born into neither rags nor riches, he was a son of a Spanish blacksmith who married a French woman, he was the only child, much to his parents disgruntlement. But maybe it was about quality over quantity! - The boy was curious and quick-learning, even if a bit socially withdrawn. He’d often run into the woods to look for funny bugs and maybe fairies. As long as he’d return to learn his father’s trade, - Eventually the family was asked to accompany the crusade sent to the Holy Land, providing repairs for the armour and weapons, - The parents came down with sickness on the way to Holy Land, leaving the boy orphaned but picked up by the Hospitaller knight order, he was taught basic medicine as well as sword fighting, - While Jaime never really was religious, he was loyal and he admired the mission of the order. 'Our lords, the sick.' motto ended up shaping most of his life from that point on, - Baldwin IV of Jerusalem, known as the Leper King ended up being the only monarch Jaime ever knelt before and the young knight remained loyal to him till the king's untimely death, - During his stay in the Holy Land, the young knight met many different people, it was fascinating and so different from the quiet, simple life he was used to in his village. One such interesting person was a young scholar, an arcanist specialized in healing. He took interest in Jaime when the young knight was walking the beach in Jaffa, where he was stationed. He'd find a beached octopus and Jaime, despite being previously wounded in battle, braved the salty waters and returned the creature where it belonged, - Eventually, the crusaders were chased out of the Holy Land. Jaime returned home, where he was given a piece of land to govern for his efforts. He had no interest in being a count, instead given himself to researching magic, inspired by his friend.First death.
- Through his times as an idle noble, Jaime managed to piss off most of royalty and clergy around. He never married, he seemed to be more interested in men, frogs and magic than politics. The former crusader still believed the motto of his order, so the focus of his research would be on healing magic. He'd soon find out the connections between healing and light. And dreams. - He wasn't alone in his studies, as the friend he met back at Holy Land would follow him back to France and act as his mentor. And soon enough, a lover. It brought ire from clergy, but Jaime would use his crusader past as a shield. Besides, if the Lord didn't wanted humanity to use divine gifts, he's make the world work differently... - By the age of 45, Jaime got skilled enough with his magic so another path opened before him, allowing him to learn more about the magic of bodies. During one dispute about his lifestyle with a bishop, he got fed up enough, he actually decided to test out a new spell he crafted on the holy man. Turned the guy into a frog. Oops. - What was worse, the disappearance of the bishop quickly got pinned on him. He soon was accused of murder and sentence to death by hanging. Oh no. - Things got awkward when soon after Jaime's execution, the scared, confused but definitely alive bishop returned back to the abbey. Oh dear. - Luckily, Jaime's lover and mentor decided to bring his darling back... Albeit Jaime have not returned peacefully. He returned changed and haunted. And craving. - With his blood tainted, the man became unable to use the knowledge he has gained over the years and it drove him to depression. The odd hunger for dead bodies left on the highways by bandits didn't help. He wanted to burn the village down, only stopped by his mentor. Instead, during the dead of the night, they moved to greener pastures. The Plague Doctor
- He moved to Italy, to Florence. He still knew medicine, so during the times of Black Death, he'd become useful again. After all, the sick were still his Lords. He became a Plague Doctor and he'd feast upon those who'd die in his care, - Jaime remained in Florence for a long time and he witnessed a new culture emerging from the ashes of the plague. He himself becoming a sort of bad omen, given the reputation of the plague doctors and their appearance. The beaked mask however hid well the fact he wasn't aging, - He'd build a rapport with local mages. He'd haul his old spellbooks to share them with others, he'd mingle with other immortals as well, but his reputation would become ruined as one botched ritual ended with disastrous results, burning down a house and killing the people gathered to witness it. He was unfit to do what he loved. The hermit.
- He'd move to Poland, hiding himself in the woods in Tatra moutains. The country was often torn by wars, sometimes Jaime would participate and feast upon the dead once again. But for the most part, he'd stay out of sight. His beaked mask would scare children away. - Until the young people stopped being scared and decided to visit him, ask questions. The villagers were kind for the most part, sometimes bringing in the sick who needed help. He'd teach those who wanted to be taught, - And that was until the little group of students he had caught ire of the gang of Austrian witch hunters. One day Jaime found his students dead. He fought the witch hunters, died again, but came back angrier. He feasted on their entrails.Great War.
- He'd move back to France. There atmosphere was tense. The technology marched on, the politics were confusing as ever. Another war erupted and Jaime decided to participate as a medic. He witnessed the new machines, the new guns, the new explosives but there was something he wasn't prepared for. Chemical warfare. There was nothing he could do to stop it. - Shellshocked, he saw the birth of a new plague. This time he nearly starved himself, exhausted by the cycles. Luckily a young soldier snapped him out of it and they soon befriended each other. The times of hunting for witches were over and people were getting more interested in spirituality. Maybe they could start a new.Modern.
- Jaime moved with his friend to USA, where they got separated, - He witnessed the changing times. Heard about the new huge war in Europe, but decided not to get involved this time, - He decided to simply become a scholar, spending his time researching animals, medicine, technology, sometimes magic. Seeing the ups and down of modern society, helping those in need, be it through physical protection or teaching, - He eventually found his way to Easthaven as a researcher for Baxendale College.6D6
