Exchange Agents + Adoptables - Theo Crowhurst - 05-14-2021

The Exchange has been in Easthaven since before there was the United States of America, originally an offshoot from the Boston cohort as they grew and evolved. They put down roots as industry grew and urban development took over the wilderness, the world and growing community making it clear that they had to have a regular presence in Easthaven with its busy trade and penchant for the weird. Today, Easthaven's Exchange is led by Inquisitor Theo Crowhurst, dedicated to his job and jaded.

The agents range from your garden variety humans to half-bloods and undead, even the occasional shifter. Their sense of ingroup loyalty is second to none, no matter how pleasant or unpleasant you are. The Easthaven cohort is relatively small, moonlighting as a supposedly moderately successful PI firm without actually taking on any customers. Here Crowhurst leads a variety of experts and newbies, young and old.

If you're interested in making an Exchange agent, go ahead and list it as their career! If you want to be an old hand or a new hire, anything goes, but it's recommended to check out the other Exchange agents. What your character does for the Exchange can be self-defined, whether they go deep into practising magic, lean more towards CSI style work, or good old-fashioned detective work.

The coffee at the office is little better than sludge, but it keeps you up all night.

Available ranks:
  • Senior Agent: You've been around the block and seen more than a few things. A veteran of the Exchange.
  • Agent: Neither new nor old, you've experienced enough that no one calls you rookie anymore.
  • Junior Agent: You're fresh on the job, possibly bright and bushy-tailed. Everyone will call you 'rookie' whether you like it or not.

RE: Exchange Agents + Adoptables - Theo Crowhurst - 01-17-2023

Below is a selection of loosely defined characters up for grabs. Most of these have been mentioned by name once or twice in existing threads, and their roles defined by their brief cameos or mentions. As a result, their names are set in stone, but much of the rest can be discussed if you've got a specific idea in mind.

These have been designed to be as flexible as possible while still offering a specific jumping-off point for anyone interested in a pre-established spot. These are also NPCs that current Exchange characters can mention or use in their threads, so long as they stay true to the stated descriptions.

Any adoptable marked with strikethrough text has been taken or is otherwise unavailable.

Exchange Adoptables

Lawson | Junior Agent
Partnered up with Marszalek, Lawson is fresh and eager, but she does have experience with arcanists and rituals. She doesn't necessarily need to be an arcanist to be experienced in the area. Known to have a bit of a pushy personality.

Marszalek | Junior Agent
Partnered up with Lawson, Marszalek is the more experienced of the two, but he's laid back and happy to let Lawson take point. He's something of a charmer and that's how he digs up information.

Pickens | Agent
Pickens has a passion for obituaries and keeps track of the reported deaths in the Easthaven area, usually through the various newspapers published locally. Maybe he's got a link-up with the city coroner, maybe he used to be one, whatever it is, he's the one everyone goes to about dead bodies.

Dahl | Junior Agent / Agent
Dahl is of Scandinavian heritage and a half-blood of some troll variety. Quite tall and imposing, they've got the intimidation factor down perfectly, but their work in the field is up to par with the rest of the agents. Having trolls for relatives doesn't make them stupid, just sturdier than your average being.

Chapel | Agent / Senior Agent
The medical professional on staff and a practitioner of healing magic. Chapel is a woman with a long career behind her in the medical field. Was she a trauma surgeon? A coroner? A general practitioner who suddenly found out the supernatural was real? Whatever her story, she's no-nonsense but possesses a good bedside manner. And enough patience to deal with a bunch of Agents reluctant to get their scrapes and breaks looked at.

Dorion | Senior Agent
An Arcanist who joined the Easthaven cohort after transferring from the Boston cohort, he was instrumental in getting the local Sewing Circle back on its feet and organised after some fallow years. Having been an active Exchange agent for some years in Boston, he's continued his work in Easthaven, often working partnered with the Inquisitor. At this point in life, he's jaded about magic, scoffs at arcanists who aim for flash or try too hard for an aesthetic, and is dedicated to his research which focuses on achieving true teleportation.
Starting Keyword: Transmission.

Aldane | Senior Agent
With long life comes long experience. Aldane is a Germanic undying who willingly sacrificed himself to the bog for his village during a famine. Rather than become another bog body to be discovered, the combination of ritual, faith, and the belief of his village slid Aldane into undeath as an undying being. He's slogged through time, but that dedication to the greater good hasn't faded and now he's one of a few undying on the Exchange payroll. Time range: 1st Century CE.

Associates of the Exchange

Lethe Hostel Matron
Carrying a weight to her presence that implies years lived beyond human understanding, the matron of Lethe hostel is in reality the manager. She fashions herself as the matron and cares for the residents who pass through the hostel. She's wise and kindly, but has steel in her that proves that she is the perfect candidate for handling potentially volatile guests.

Rizzo | Hedge Wizard
Rizzo's an Arcanist with a flair for alchemy, especially Vicks Vaporub enchanted to heal whatever it is applied to. Helpful little potions and ointments is his area, usually based on the little homemade remedies your grandmother is convinced work. He has close ties with the Exchange, from someone in his family being an agent or just close cooperation throughout the years. When the Sewing Circle was reestablished, Rizzo was first in line, along with a crate full of Vaporub tubs for all the agents.

Murphy | Current/former police contact
Murphy is an older cop with the Easthaven Police Department, and Captain of the Newton precinct. He's an old friend of Theo's from the Boston PD, having transferred to Easthaven a few years ago. He's currently one of Theo's contacts with the police department, friendly but tough and in the know about the supernatural. In play, he can either be recently retired or still a Captain, depending on where a player wants to take him. Maybe he might even look to the Exchange if he wants to make a bigger difference than just throwing Theo the occasional bone?

Halifax | Cemetary Keeper
Halifax is an older gentleman, supposedly, but he keeps Eden Cemetary tended and clean and organises any burials or exhumations. He's known to the Exchange, mainly as a man who vociferously defends his cemetery from meddling hands and occasionally allows Exchange-affiliated Arcanists to gather the more innocent types of components they can get from graves and cemeteries. He and the Inquisitor have an understanding, which leads to a speedy investigation of anything suspicious on the cemetery grounds.
