Mathus is a gentle, soft-spoken man with an even-keel and fierce faith. He is very gentlemanly, sometimes to the point of being seen as old-fashioned.
Mathus is a lanky man, making him look a little taller than he is, although his body is packed with lean muscle. He keeps his hair short, disliking if it grows long enough to touch the top of his collar.
He keeps a modest wardrobe, tending towards button-downs, soft knit sweaters, and nice trousers. He tends to avoid t-shirts except for shifting or exercise.
Mathus shifts into a Eurasian wolf with a red sable coat. His preferred form is that of the four-legged dire wolf, rather than the hybrid or smaller animal forms. He is tall and leggy, much like his human form.
His first language is Romanian and he speaks English with an accent.
He has a piece of a nian's tusk lodged in his chest cavity. He is not aware of it.
- Born and grew up in Bălan, Romania. His father was a miner, his mother a teacher at the local Catholic school. He is the eldest of four, with three younger sisters. They are part of a long line of werewolves who have lived in Romania for generations. The world isn't as wild as it used to be, but they've adapted.
- When mining operations ceased, the family fell on tough times, but faith kept them together and cohesive, if not totally comfortable. Mathus’ father eventually found new work as a consultant and the family found better days again.
- Mathus went to school to become a doctor. He was lucky enough to marry the girl he loved, intending to start a family of his own. Shifter fertility thwarted their attempts for several years, but their faith kept them optimistic. Unfortunately, the relationship ended in tragedy when his wife ran afoul of a hunter. She was killed and Mathus is still in the throes of his grief. He moved away for the distance and to pick up the pieces.
- Since he has a fair grasp of English from studying abroad, he came to America and found his way to Easthaven on a work visa. A newcomer to the area, he found work at a small clinic in Old Town.
