The Abaca Chain

Information Brokers, Criminals

Just like any large city, Easthaven has a thriving criminal underbelly. It's nothing too dramatic, but there are plenty of movers and shakers just under the surface, both supernatural and mundane. Nari's group is one of these and she's looking for loyal henchmen: informants, fixers, and cleaners to help her protect what's hers, and they can expect to get rich in the process.

They could be called a bunch of classy criminals--a little Yakuza, a little mafia, a little John Wick, Cowboy Bebop, and kung fu, if you need a tasting flight of flavors. They're headquartered at Nari's noodle shop just off Balmoral Street. At a glance, it's a nice place. A quality restaurant with well-trained staff and food available to eat in or take out. There's a well-stocked lounge bar where they often host live bands and karaoke nights. Nari is not the sort to skimp. That said, few know that the second floor is dedicated to a very exclusive VIP lounge, where the real money flows. The sort that needs a password or for you to know someone to get into. Here, Nari maintains a neutral territory, invoking the Laws of Hospitality when necessary. Mundane criminals may scoff at the little quirk, but they all know better than to break any of the rules.

As for the group itself, although Nari is categorically ruthless, she is not the violent sort unless pushed. Her preference is on brokering information and facilitating deals, with a hefty heap of smuggling. She expects her underlings to conduct their dealings with an even hand and as little collateral as possible. It draws attention otherwise, and she always prefers evasion. Although she is a covetous creature, she does not take on more than she can reasonably protect. It's not worth having if you can't also protect it. Those who work under her can expect the dragon's avid protection so long as they are loyal, and the entire street, homes, businesses, and all, around her shop are under her protection whether they asked for it or not. Rival gangs know not to cause trouble around there, although many of the residents are quite grateful for the unspoken guardianship.

Those who work for her are generally not aware of her supernatural quirks, but she's also not trying to cover it up. She's simply never been one to answer a direct question, so most people are uncertain about her mane and sharp teeth. Is it cosmetic or something else? Nobody really knows, while most are wise enough not to ask.

It is also worth noting that this group often works in conjunction with the Exchange. Although their help may only be the bare minimum, and while they're happy to break human laws, they do their best not to garner the attention of the city's magical protectors.

In conclusion, if you're interested in joining a classy criminal gang of information brokers and smugglers owned by a dragon, hit me up here or in the Discord, tagging Sluggy!
