Emily is a lieutenant detective with the Easthaven police department and a newly-minted arcanist discovering and exploring her new power. Determined in both areas, she is a quick study and takes her work very seriously. With magic, she may be developing a few mad-scientist tendencies.
Reserved, shy, and very particular, she prefers to keep to herself and is a 'soak up the atmosphere' kind of woman, enjoying being present rather than actively engaging. In her off-hours, she likes to spend time at home with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and a book. She likes to decorate, do crafts, and shop. Emily can be fretful and overthink things. Often she is plagued by loneliness and grief, and this will often send her out looking for something to distract her.
She is easily flustered in casual conversation. In her professional life, she isn't a different person but takes full advantage of knowing the steps, procedures, and formulas to guide her. She's not hidebound, but she relies heavily on social convention to keep a handle on things.
Emily is a very private individual, generally unwilling to share much with anyone she isn't close with. At work, she tends to be quiet about personal things, only speaking when necessary and even then, only on topics pertaining to work. She's a tough nut to crack, and becoming her friend is an involved process.
That said, she isn't without a good number of friends whom she sees regularly. Those she calls friends tend to be people she's known for years rather than casual acquaintances. With friends, she is warm, supportive, and reliable, even if she's still private. For friends, she can be convinced to do quite a lot of things outside of her comfort zone. She generally only has the patience for older individuals who display a lot of competence. An introvert, she is best in a group setting where she doesn't need to do much talking and can just enjoy being around people.

'Enemies' is too dramatic and requires far too much emotional energy for Emily. People she doesn't like don't get her attention unless she works with them, in which case, they get cool professionalism. She tends to be too cooperative to have a rival, preferring to push herself rather than get involved in a competition.
At one point, she dreamed of marriage, kids, and a house with a white picket fence, but years of bad relationships have turned her off and made her jaded to the whole concept. Still, Emily dates a lot, going out at least every week or every other week with men she's been set up with by a friend or her mother, or met through online dating. She is very good at dating, but more often than not, these relationships don't go past the second or third meeting and rarely, if ever, end up in the bedroom. If they do, it's due to high physical attraction more than anything else. She's a good candidate for 'met her once and went to a nice dinner but we never managed another date.'
The simple fact is that Emily is just going through the motions, even if her prospects are pretty good. She's been seen on the arm of many affluent and attractive men, but it usually doesn't amount to more than a lovely evening, as she is emotionally checked out and exhausted. That, or she's too focused on work, and the relationship peters out. Why she keeps doing it, she doesn't know. Free dinner and the chance to dress up and flirt might be part of it. So, while she's charming and fun to date, and she takes it lightly enough to move on, she doesn't expect much.
She isn't above having a casual fling, though, and is relatively successful with no strings attached relationships.

Even if Emily is shy and reserved, a lot of the fun with her comes from throwing her into situations outside of her comfort zone, so I'm always ready to plot that out. Hit me up on the Discord @sluggy!
