Exchange Offices

From Guidebook

The brownstone building they work out of in Newton is the pleasant face of the organisation, unassuming and hard to find. There is no marker on google maps showing you where they are and no city maps will identify them to anyone going the old school route. The truth is, most who want to find them already know how, or go to Lethe Hostel for the help they offer.

The inside of the building generally favours early 20th century décor, a lot of dark solid wood and patterned vinyl flooring drawing inspiration from Middle Eastern geometric designs. The ground floor has a reception desk by the large staircase leading to the upper floors, and a vintage elevator along the left hand wall. Beyond the entry, the halls and floors of the building seem to be more spacious than the exterior suggests, and those who frequent the building know it seems to have a mind of its own. No one is clear on whether or not they've hired a janitor, but things get fixed when they break, eventually. The building is also warded quite powerfully, no magic able to root into it from the outside without someone first crossing the threshold, but anything on the inside is effectively trapped as well. You can't escape if you can't open the door.

Areas in Detail[edit | edit source]

The Basement[edit | edit source]

On the basement level, one can find the sprawling archives, which is the repository of all information the Exchange in Easthaven has gathered over centuries, with some coming from other Exchange Cohorts as they've shared information and discoveries. At the back of the archives one can find the vault, the storage space for anything enchanted, dangerous or middling, that the Exchange has gathered and is not in use by anyone. The dangerous objects are often simply waiting for someone to disenchant them, or have been consigned to be permanently behind lock and key when disenchantment has failed.

Outside of the archives, the basement is also the spot where various training rooms can be found. There are multiple spaces, all catering to the different needs of the agents. One can find a rather mundane workout space, a more specialised martial arts space, and another that carries equipment for martial arts involving swords or other such weapons. Those who favour firearms are also not neglected, a firing range taking up significant space. It is worth noting that agents are ordered to not carry illegal weaponry and make sure they have their licenses in order.

The Offices[edit | edit source]

The floors above the ground floor are dedicated to various office spaces. Some of these are open plan bullpen style desk layouts while others are more or less normal offices down corridors, with the agents picking and choosing based on their preferences, and the various 'teams' assigned to the same spaces. Although, should they need a quiet space to work, there are meeting rooms an agent can use. The senior agents and the Inquisitor have dedicated offices as a rule, but some senior agents do prefer the bullpen space.

The Attic[edit | edit source]

The topmost floor of the building is a spacious spot, but it is not a space the Exchange inhabits in the day-to-day. The attic is the realm of the Sewing Circle, the landing opening up to a large space dedicated to their workspace. With workbenches all around, there are plenty of surfaces for the witches, wizards, and ritualists to ply their trade. Cabinets and shelves along the walls offer everything they might need for their work, and the wall of tall windows showing a view across the river into Old Town provides plenty of light during the day. A hallway leads away from the workspace into offices for private work, and one dedicated office for the senior member of the Circle and their informal leader, the ritual specialist Dorion, an Exchange agent.
